I hope you can join us from wherever you are. It will premiere at 7pm on Wednesday, April 21, and will then be up on the Confluence youtube channel for two weeks, ending on May 8th. All of the Confluence concerts this season have been made available at no charge. This is an exciting musical happening that is part of this Confluence Concerts season. It's an online show called Gracias a la Vida, and it's a tribute to two wonderful Argentine artists - Astor Piazzolla and Mercedes Sosa. Astor Piazzola reinvented the tango, and he would have been 100 years old last month. Mercedes Sosa, born fourteen years later, sang of freedom and hardship, and was often called 'the voice of the voiceless.' Both were part of musical revolutions - nuevo tango and nueva canción. These two voices work perfectly together in concert - the warm and the startling, but both full of passion!
The concert will feature a wonderful host of artists, mostly recorded from various remote locations. The Payadora Tango Ensemble ,as well as the wonderful pianist, Robert Kortgaard, Andrew Downing on bass and cello, (who also wrote many arrangements specifically for this show), singer Anaïs Kelsey-Verdecchia, actor Diego Matamoros, Confluence's Artistic Producer, Larry Beckwith, visual artist Kevork Mourad, and The Gryphon Trio!
